IBKR Mobile Authentication (IB Key) Overview - Android

Overview: 

This page covers specific points of installing IBKR Mobile and using the IBKR Mobile Authentication for authentication purposes and using the IB Key protocol  on Android devices.  For general questions on the IBKR Mobile Authentication, please refer to KB2260.

Installation

You can download the IBKR Mobile app on your phone directly from;
Google Play Store, 360 Mobile Assistant or Baidu Mobile Assistant.

How to install IBKR Mobile from the Google Play Store:

  1. On your Android phone tap on the Play Store Google Play Store App icon app.
  2. Tap on the search bar at the top, type IBKR Mobile then tap Search.
  3. Look for IBKR Mobile from Interactive Brokers Group, then select the app.
  4. Tap on Install to the right.
  5. Once the installation completes, tap on Open to launch the IBKR Mobile app.

Activation Without IBKR Mobile Previously Activated:

Once the app is installed on your device you will need to activate it for the username you would like to protect. This operation happens entirely on your phone and internet access is required for activation.

  1. On your phone start the IBKR Mobile app.
  2. On the first screen, you'll see two options: 
    a. Register Two-Factor: This allows you to activate IBKR Mobile Authentication
    b. Trade: Select this option to trade on behalf of your account

    You can select Register Two-Factor to start the activation process for Authentication.


  3. The next page will provide instructions to activate IB Key within IBKR Mobile.  Select Continue.

  4. Type your Username and Password in the corresponding fields.

  5. You will see a list of your phone numbers.  Please choose one that is able to receive text messages, as IB will send you a SMS message with an activation code.  Then select Get Activation Code.


     
  6. You will receive a text message and see a screen that asks for the following:
    - Activation code: The  code is a five digit number that is sent via SMS
    - PIN: A number code that you can create when activating IB Key.  You can use this code as verification to log into your account
    - Repeat PIN: Type the same number that you created in the second field

  7. You will receive a confirmation message that the activation has succeeded.
         

Once IB Key within IBKR Mobile has been activated, you can close the app and proceed to login to Account Management or your Trade Application. Refer to Operation instructions below on how to use the IBKR Mobile Authentication.

Notes: 

  1. The PIN must be at least 4 and up to 6 characters (letters, numbers and special characters allowed). Refer to KB2269 for guidelines in setting you PIN.

Operation

Once activated, operation of the IB  Mobile Authentication is as follows:
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not have Internet access while operating IB Key within IBKR Mobile, please refer to the section "What if I do not receive the notification?".

  1. Enter your username and password into the trading platform or Account Management login screen and click Login. If correct, a notification will be sent to your phone.

  2. On your phone, swipe down from the top and check your notification menu. Tap on the IBKR Mobile app notification.

  3. Selecting the notification will launch the IBKR Mobile app. It will ask you first to use your fingerprint if you have it registered on your phone.  Scan your fingerprint


    If you do not want to use your fingerprint, you can select "Cancel" to type your IBKR Mobile PIN.


     
  4. If authentication succeeds, the Log-in will now automatically proceed.

What if I do not receive the notification?

If notifications are disabled, no internet access is available or if you have a poor, unstable connection it is possible the notification may not arrive. In these cases operation of IBKR Mobile Authentication is as follows: 

  1. Click the link Click here if you do not receive the notification.

  2. This will generate a challenge code and box to enter response.

  3. Launch the IBKR Mobile on your Smartphone, select Authenticate (if necessary), enter your PIN and Challenge then tap Generate Passcode.
             
     
  4. This will generate a response string.

     
  5. Enter the response from your Smartphone into the log in screen and click OK.

  6. If authentication succeeds, the Log-in will now automatically proceed.
